Some 15-odd years ago, a family
from New Mexico first discovered -- and fell in love
with -- Treasure Beach. So, they returned to build La Sirena -- The Mermaid -- a dream
of a holiday house for 1-6 guests. Privately perched
unseen on a bluff overlooking the ocean and 3/4 mile
long Billy's Bay beach, which it shares with local
fishers and only 6 other villas.
La Sirena is built
in a minimalist Palladian style -- all pure, gleaming
white and deep marine blue. A huge central living
room with built-in bancos (banquettes) opens out through
mahogany-stained cedar French doors to a covered patio
and terrace with plunge pool -- with views all the
way down the coast to Pedro Bluff.
Two kingsize bedrooms with en suite
bathrooms in marble, white- stone, and tile also open
up through French doors to the pool terrace, seabreezes
and sunsets. A third large bedroom with 2 twinbeds
and private bathroom, plus a modern green-tiled kitchen
and staff bathroom complete the villa interiors. Ceiling
fans throughout. A/C bedrooms. TV/DVD/ music system
and internet service.
The villa is now also wheelchair
accessible from front stairs thru the entire house
& pool terrace. New botanical gardens are planned
to showcase the villa with a collection of traveller's,
chinese and royal palms, agave, and specimen aloe
& cacti.
La Sirena is set off the countryroad in Billy's Bay, a
peaceful, quiet area -- a 10 minute drive or
20+ minute walk to Calabash Bay, restaurants,
local shops and bars.
Local guides are available for touring by land
or sea to YS Falls, Bamboo Alley, Appleton Rum,
Pelican Bar, Black River, Sunny Isles and Little
Ochie, Milk River Bath, Lover's Leap, plus sport
fishing, snorkeling and birding. Rentals of
mt. bikes/helmets, mopeds, snorkel gear, body
boards, seakayaks and lifejackets for adults/children
are also available.
Airport meeting service, roundtrip transfers
with PPV insured/certified private driver/vans,
spa services and babysitting can be arranged
for guests.
Best of all, La Sirena includes
the live-out services of Miss Ida Hill, one
of the doyennes of Treasure Beach cooks, and
Monica Hill as housekeeper. |
