ESCAPE TO THE PAST

Over 10 centuries ago, sailing up from Venezuela, some of Jamaica's earliest peoples, the Taino, chose this very spot to settle, as evidenced by the rare collection of carved stones, shells and artifacts showcased at BLUE MARLIN and COQUINA. Pirates, the Spanish, the British came too, as evidenced by a terracotta urn and a seaward-pointing cannon on the grounds. Explore well-tended tropical gardens of cacti, succulents, frangipani, hibiscus -- all around you is a rich greenness rarely found in these parts.

Laze away in hammocks under a thatched trulli hut at oceanside, with nary a care. Stroll along a beach virtually yours all alone, save for local fishermen, coming in late in the day with a bounty of fish and seafood line-caught off the Pedro Cays. Life changes little here.
